A Case of the Mondays June 7, 2010

Garfield was not kidding when he said that Mondays are the worst.  Why is it so much harder to get out of bed on Monday than it is on Sunday?  This morning I woke up at 5 AM with two big brown eyes staring at me.  Sadie the dog wants breakfast now, please and thank you.  I know what you’re thinking, just go back to sleep.  She can wait another 45 minutes, right?  Yes, in theory.  In actuality, she will continue to stare until you relent.  So I did, hoping after a quick trip outside and some food, she would go right back to sleep and I could just reset the alarm.  She didn’t.  She ate, went back to bed and then scratched herself and cleaned her paws very nicely for the next 20 minutes.  The amazing thing about this is that on weekends, she can easily sleep until 6 am.  Then we do the outside/food thing, and go back to bed where she immediately falls back into a sound slumber.  But not on weekdays.  Does she know I have to get up anyway?  Do dogs know the days of the week?  Work days vs relaxing days?  I’m beginning to think they are much, much smarter than we give them credit.

But anyway, I’m at work now, counting down days to both payday and vacation.  14 work days until both!

I’ll leave you with this song, currently playing on my iPod.  If it doesn’t put you in a happier mood, then I just can’t help you.

Lazy Sundays June 6, 2010

I have a love/hate affair with Sunday afternoons.  On one hand, Sunday is usually the one day of the week in which I have no plans and no place I have to be.  On the other, it is a reminder that the weekend is almost over and I have a full five day work week ahead of me.

Today I spent time shopping at the local Wal-Mart Supercenter.  I know many people consider Wal-Mart to be either the world’s most evil corporation, or place where you can see the most hoosier-like citizens of this fine country (see People of Wal-Mart).  I personally love it.  While I enjoy shopping at Target more than anything, there is something to be said for a place where you can buy a pint of strawberries, underwear, potting soil and a new set of tires, all in the same shopping trip.

It’s a most lovely day today.  Low 80s, sunny and low humidity.  Extremely rare for this time of year.  I think Sadie and I will go sit on the balcony and read a book.  Well, I’ll read, she’ll just lay on her blanket and sunbathe and ponder life’s dog mysteries.
